Managing Partner
Tax Consulting
Mark Pizzacalla’s professional accounting, business and taxation career spans over two decades. Mark is a regular commentator on taxation issues as they relate to SMEs and privately-owned businesses. Mark currently holds the senior position of Managing Partner of HLB Mann Judd in Melbourne, and is also Head of the firm's tax practice.
Mark is a prolific tax writer and has contributed significant tax commentary through his numerous articles, publications, and conference papers. Mark is also Chair of the Taxation Institute of Australia’s National SME Sub-Committee.
He has also had representation on several Australian Taxation Office (ATO) committees and working parties. As further evidence of Mark’s standing in the tax community, his work has been cited in Australia's Parliament, by the Hon Chris Bowen MP, who complimented Mark on the quality of his work in relation to SME tax issues. Mark was also invited by the Assistant Commissioner, Small and Medium Enterprises to join the ATO Tax Practitioner Forum, Small to Medium Enterprises Working Group.
Through his work and close involvement with the ATO, Mark is in the rare position of being a voice that is directly heard by the ATO. This includes making submissions and presentations, many of which are on behalf of clients facing complex taxation issues. An additional major benefit for clients is his ability to keep thoroughly abreast of the latest developments across the regulatory framework of Australia’s taxation regime. Mark has also built up an extensive tax network which enables him to refer his clients to other experts in their chosen fields with confidence.
Mark regularly speaks and presents to various professional bodies on taxation issues, contributes to opinion articles in major daily newspapers and trade journals including The Australian Financial Review, the Taxation Institute of Australia Journal and the Australian Tax Forum, and has been regularly interviewed on ABC Lateline Business in relation to current taxation issues.
Mark is recognised as a technically astute and perceptive practitioner, capable of delivering tailored and practical outcomes to clients. In particular, he is known for his ability to work closely with clients, quickly gaining a thorough understanding of their complete taxation position, and providing solutions that are technically sound, practical and – above all else – highly commercial.
