Tony Fittler is the Managing Partner of HLB Mann Judd Sydney.
Tony Fittler is a highly credentialed taxation practitioner with over 25 years experience, including 20 years with HLB Mann Judd.
Well regarded as being both capable and technically astute, he possesses particularly strong skills in areas including:
- assisting private equity funds – both in Australia and overseas - with the creation and implementation of tax-effective structures, the holding and sale of investee entities (including capital gains tax and GST consequences), and more broadly, presenting at taxation seminars for the private equity industry
- advising individuals and groups undertaking property acquisitions and divestments (and in particular, matters surrounding capital gains tax and GST)
- advising boutique fund managers in relation to their tax matters across both the funds they manage, as well as the actual investment management company (including responsible entities)
- advising medium-sized businesses (both privately and publicly owned) in relation to corporate taxation compliance (including assisting boards with corporate taxation governance), taxation audits and disputes, and employee share schemes
- working closely with family-owned businesses on a wide variety of taxation issues, as well as succession planning
- working on behalf of deceased estates, including acting as an expert witness in relation to estate taxation matters.
Tony has gained wide recognition for his work in securing private binding rulings from the Australian Taxation Office in relation to various taxation matters, often in areas that have previously been open to debate or untested by law. Several of these rulings have established clear precedent for the future interpretation of taxation law and allowed to achieve commercial taxation outcomes that would not have been otherwise possible.
A pragmatic and client-focused practitioner known for his ability to look beyond issues purely related to taxation, Tony is well-regarded by both clients and peers for his innovative and personable approach.
He is also Chairman of the Australasian Association of HLB Mann Judd.
