Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR)
We act either to assist one of the disputants or as the neutral third person in a variety of ADR forms:
In some instances, an ADR process will occur without settling all issues but will at least narrow the issues for later negotiation or for a court or other imposed decision.
Critical personal skills required in acting as a mediator or other third person neutral:
-
Ability and willingness to listen
-
Identification of the important issues
-
Commonsense, patience, creativity, lateral thinking and persuasiveness
-
Option generation
-
Objectivity, neutrality and trustworthiness.
