We catch up with James Hooper, the managing director of HLB Mann Judd Adelaide.

In this short Q&A, James discusses the firm, its people and purpose.

Tell us a little about the firm

HLB Mann Judd Adelaide is a full service advisory and accounting firm. The firm was established in 1948 and over the years we have earned an excellent reputation for providing innovative business solutions, particularly for family businesses. As a part of our service offering, we provide business advisory, tax and wealth management services.

The firm’s audit and corporate advisory team deal with ASX listed, not-for-profits and large family businesses. Another unique service offering within the firm is our company secretarial, CFO and business sales services.

What does ‘a culture of client service’ mean to you?

James Hooper HLB Adelaide

Sometimes it’s about remembering the small details – it’s what shows you how we care. We have always prided ourselves with our personal approach and living by HLB’s values – valuable, accessible, supportive and trustworthy.

I think HLB’s values shone through during the pandemic. Our staff have been incredible over the past two years. It has been tough and stressful at times; however our people have taken every new challenge in their stride.

How do you give back?

Our goal is to help SA businesses succeed. We support the SABI Top 100 awards and we are also the principal partner, with Business SA (SA Chamber of Commerce).

We are very active in the SA community. Some recent activities by the firm include planting trees for the state’s ‘Carbon Neutral Adelaide’ initiative, recognising and asking each other ‘RUOK’ and sponsoring a Lions Hearing Dog (Teddy who we adore!). What stands out is that our people are always putting their hand up to participate. Getting involved and giving back is a fundamental part of our firm culture.

What are the firm’s workplace priorities in 2022?

Our leadership team intends to support our staff through:

  1. Healthy team culture – recognising and appreciating everyone’s contribution to the firm
  2. Workplace wellness – encouraging actions of listening and talking to each other
  3. Mentoring – guiding our people so they can reach their full potential.
