Andrew was born and raised in the Wollongong region and attended The Illawarra Grammar School.

He gained a Rotary Fellowship Scholarship in 1980 to attend university in Dallas, Texas. Upon returning from the United States, he completed a Bachelor of Commerce Degree at the University of Wollongong.

Employment commenced with a Sydney firm of Chartered Accountants in 1983 and completed his Commerce Degree part-time, finishing in 1985. In 1986, he commenced and completed his Professional Year with the Institute of Chartered Accountants.

In May 1988, Andrew resigned from this firm and commenced employment with one of the Big Four international accounting firms. There, he worked in the Private Business Service division. This entailed management of a range of client matters relating to taxation, audit and corporate statutory requirements. During his time with this leading firm, Andrew’s audit experience included ASX listed entities, unlisted public companies and subsidiaries of foreign organisations. Entities included the largest international dairy corporation (at the time), a manufacturing entity of specialist gears and hydraulics systems, and ceramic & refractory material company with a foreign ownership.

With over thirty years' experience in Chartered Public Practice, Andrew’s clients have included: small to medium sized manufacturing and engineering firms; professional services, including solicitors, architects and doctors; and subsidiary companies of multi-national corporations, in particular, Japanese and European subsidiaries involved in refractory, manufacture, sales and support.

Andrew also has experience within a business operational environment as he is currently a board member with St Mary Star of the Sea College. He is actively involved in the operational and strategic requirements of the school and therefore, has a greater understanding of the challenges businesses can be subjected to.
